Avaya IP Office

PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange. It is a private telephony network used within a company, organization, or building. Traditional PBXs are business telephone systems where all hardware and software are installed on-site. PBX systems are installed in a network or communications closet, often referred to as the MPOE or DMARC. The MPOE (Minimum Point of Entry) is the point where the local provider delivers service to the building.

Traditional PBX systems use CAT3, CAT5e, and CAT6 cable. They require physical hardline wiring where there is a telephone. There are four twisted pairs inside CAT5e cable. There are one-pair and two-pair PBX systems. This means that to power each telephone, it requires one or two pairs inside the CAT5e cable.

VoIP service

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) systems use the Internet to make and receive calls. VoIP telephone systems have more features than traditional PBX systems. They are more scalable and flexible. A plus side of VoIP is the lower upfront cost. VoIP systems in San Diego are billed monthly per telephone. Unlike traditional systems that require bulky on-site equipment and dedicated phone lines, VoIP operates through the cloud or your existing network infrastructure. This drastically lowers setup and monthly service costs, while offering advanced functionality such as voicemail-to-email, call forwarding, auto attendants, video conferencing, and real-time call analytics.
